Hometown Safety: Evaluating solutions for Well #8
City Staff and water system engineers presented several potential solutions to reduce Gross Alpha radiation levels in Well 8 at the March 2026 open meeting of the Rosemount Utilities Commission. Commissioners and attendees saw schematics from four potential options, which have since been summarized in the latest issue of the City newsletter. I’ve copied those potential solutions below. (Excerpt from City newsletter): Options under review include:
Limit use or shift to emergency backup: Use only during major fire events or peak summer demand.
Replace Well No. 8: Drill a new well in a different City location. • Blend with Well No. 9: Combine water before entering the storage and distribution system.
Treatment at Well No. 8: Construct a facility at the site (adjacent to and partially within Jaycee Park).
Centralized treatment at Well No. 12: Build a facility in the Business/Industrial Park and add trunk watermains to move water from Wells 7, 8, and 9 for treatment.
