Get to know your neighbor, Tami

Proud to serve the Rosemount community

I've spent a lifetime gravitating to leadership roles, and I’ve been deeply involved in our hometown in a myriad of volunteer roles since moving here in 2007.

I have been a member of the Rosemount City Council since February 2023, serving my friends, neighbors, residents and the local business community. As a mother, local volunteer, long-time professional, and Dakota County business owner, I bring empathetic perspectives and pragmatic outlooks to the issues facing our growing hometown.

Take a few moments to get to know me, my background, and more. I’m proud to be part of this city we call home.

  • As a lifetime leader called to service, it was only natural to apply for an open seat on the Rosemount City Council in early 2023. I was humbled and honored to be selected among 16 candidates for this role. Since then, the council and I have worked with local neighborhoods to mitigate assessment impacts, worked with local businesses to optimize their operations for success, approved a long-awaited Police Department and Public Works campus while maintaining the city’s AA+ credit rating, and more.

  • I believe a thriving business community is important to the vibrancy of our community. I advocate for planful, responsible development in the city of Rosemount through my role as a Commissioner and Vice Chair of the Rosemount Port Authority.

  • I currently represent the residents and city of Rosemount as our community’s alternate director on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA), helping to advance public transit and accessibility to our community.

  • I assumed the role of RAAA President in 2021, leading one of the largest volunteer-run nonprofit organizations in our city.

One of the first projects I was tasked with in that role was to lead the development of a new organization website in just six weeks. I did what I have always done in my volunteer roles: I rolled up my sleeves and worked with our team to get it done.

Also during my tenure, our Board implemented an enhanced Background Check Policy and the Checkr service provider, adopted the organization's first-ever Anti-Bullying Policy, formalized attendance area eligibility due to ISD 196 boundary shifts, increased the frequency and variety of Positive Coaching Alliance workshops, and took steps to consistently measure program satisfaction across all programs.

I retired from RAAA service at the conclusion of the October 2022 annual meeting, as my children have both aged out of RAAA sports.

  • I first joined the RAAA Board of Directors in early 2019. I was soon managing the newsletter and social media efforts of the organization, significantly expanding its communication reach.

  • RAAA sports were some of the first outside activities that my kids participated in, and I learned early on that it takes an army of parent-volunteers to make RAAA programs happen.

I first volunteered as a youth track coach, teaching kindergarteners the fine arts of running between the lines and handing over relay batons, and celebrating our team successes.

I went on to serve as a Traveling Baseball Team Manager for four years. One of those years including significant fundraising responsibilities for a Cooperstown team.

  • Based in Mendota Heights, Angel Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to provide support to local adults with cancer and their families. For more than twenty years, their programs have ensured that individuals and families have the resources they need throughout their cancer journey.

I began volunteering with Angel Foundation in memory of my father and my sister. My roles included a special project volunteer for a brand exercise, and also on the Angel Gala Planning Committee for three years.

  • Tami and her husband Michael are proud alumni of Drake University, and were thrilled when their daughter Anna (RHS ‘22) chose Drake for her own post-secondary studies. Tami and Michael both serve on the Parent & Family Advisory Council for the university.

The Parent and Family Advisory Council is composed of families who are committed to the mission of Drake University. Council members are considered ambassadors for the University and Drake families, sharing the “family perspective” with University leaders and engaging with fellow bulldog families.
